2013 Southern Super Series Rookie Class Announced
Nemechek, Hemric and Massey Make Up Inaugural RoY Class
The 2013 Hedman Husler Hedders Rookie of Year candidates for the Southern Super Series presented by Sunoco have been announced for the inaugural battle for top rookie honors.  The 2013 Rookie of the Year will receive $1,500 cash from Hedman at the end of the season.

The 2013 candidates are Daniel Hemric of Kannapolis, NC, John Hunter Nemechek from Mooresville, NC and Mason Massey from Douglasville, GA.  The three drivers will duke it out for the honor as top rookie with their 10 best finishes of the 16 counting towards the award. None of the three candidates have ever run full-time in a Super Late Model division, which was one of the criteria for competing for the Southern Super Series rookie title.

Daniel Hemric: The 2012 JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour Champion won eight races on his way to the title in the Midwest-based Pro Late Model division.  Hemric is a former Legends Car National Champion and a Big Money winner at the Charlotte Motor Speedway (NC).  The 22-year-old from Kannapolis, NC is also a Speedweeks winner in both Super Late Models and NASCAR Modifieds.

"It’s definitely an honor just to be a part of the Southern Super Series," said Hemric. "To be able to run like we've ran so far and to be able to contend for the Rookie of the Year title is great.  Hopefully we'll be able to keep doing what we've been doing so far."

Hemric has been in the top five this season already on five occasions in the six races to date and is currently second in the overall standings.

John Hunter Nemechek: Nemechek, the son of longtime NASCAR racer Joe Nemechek, joins the Southern Super Series after a strong showing in limited Super Late Model appearances throughout the country in 2012.  The 15-year-old led laps in the Snowball Derby at Five Flags Speedway (FL) and set fast-time at the Howie Lettow Memorial 150 at The Milwaukee Mile (WI).  Nemechek also captured the Allison Legacy Series Championship after winning 15 of 18 races last season.

"We keep getting stronger every week and it's going to be fun trying to beat Daniel (Hemric) and Mason (Massey)," said Nemechek.  "It definitely feels like that first win is right around the corner. Hopefully we can get it here soon. That first one is the hardest to get, but once we get it, it's not going to be too hard after that."

Nemechek has logged five top-10 finishes so far this season and has led 18 laps.  He had a season-best finish of second at Mobile (AL) in May.

Mason Massey: Sixteen-year-old Mason Massey comes to the series after winning multiple championships in at Atlanta Motor Speedway (GA) in both Legends Cars and Bandoleors in the Thursday Thunder program.  Massey then moved to Pro Late Models where he won a Show Me The Money event at Montgomery Motor Speedway (AL) in 2012.  He followed that up with a win in the historic Alabama 200 at the same venue.

"It's been a challenging year for us so far, but if we can finish out the season on a strong note, we'll be right there," said Massey. "Daniel (Hemric) and John Hunter (Nemechek) are awesome racecar drivers. All I can do is try my best and go from there."

Massey has made two starts in 2013 with the intentions to run the rest of the way in the Southern Super Series.
