Southern Super Series Honoring Montgomery's 60th Anniversary with Alabama 200
August 24 Event to Cap off Track's Monumental Season with 200-laps of SLM Action
After a storied history at multiple tracks around the Yellowhammer State, the Alabama 200 has found its home once again at Montgomery Motor Speedway and this year’s 49th running of the event, during the track’s 60th anniversary celebration, is sure to live up to the hype.

The 2013 edition of the event will fly under the Southern Super Series presented by Sunoco Super Late Model banner.  The Super Late Model series will bring its biggest stars to battle in the track’s season-finale event on Saturday, August 24.

The event will be the advertised 200-lap distance with an optional break at halfway in an effort to appease all teams.

“It will be the normal 200 laps with cautions counting and we will have a competition caution at lap 101,” said Montgomery Motor Speedway’s Paul Boswell.  “But it’s not a mandatory pit stop.  In other words you don’t have to pit then, but if you do you won’t lose any spots except to any cars that elect to stay out.  That will give a chance to some of our smaller teams to make their stops and not have to worry about losing laps and things like that but also leaving the strategy out there for some of the teams that want to try to play the strategy game and short pit or pit late or anything like that.”

The Alabama 200 has produced such historic  winners as Neil Bonnett, Jody Ridley, Richard Petty, Bobby Allison and more recently Augie Grill, Mason Massey and Hunter Robbins.

The 49th Annual Alabama 200 will be the final verse of the track’s 60th Anniversary season.  Track officials are hoping that the choice to team with the Southern Super Series for the event will make it even more memorable.

“We’ve been celebrating our 60th anniversary this year,” said Boswell.  “In fact, we had a Twin 60’s Pro Late Model race to commemorate it earlier in the season.  It’s been a great year for us and we’re excited to have the Southern Super Series as part of it and to finish out the year strong with the Alabama 200.”
