Kenseth Riding Roller Coaster into Gulf Coast Swing this Weekend
Defending All American 400 Winner is Set for Double Dip
Team PR - After an up-and-down two weeks that brought Ross Kenseth his first win as well as his first DNF (Did Not Finish) of the young season, he and No. 25 Blain’s Farm & Fleet team will head to the Gulf Coast this weekend for back-to-back races in Pensacola, Fla. and Mobile, Ala.

The journey is often long for the No. 25 team who have become the nomads of super late model racing, but not always as trying as the past few weeks. Despite finishing seventh in the Joe Shear Classic at Madison (Wis.) International Speedway on May 5, Kenseth and company suffered their third straight electrical issue of the season.

“We had the electrical issue again at Madison, so we knew we had to figure out what was going on,” Kenseth said. “So we tested twice at Hickory that next week and worked our tails off to go to South Boston. It was really awesome to see all of that work pay off. Pretty much we spent five days straight where we got little sleep and did a lot of work. To win our first race of the season at South Boston was pretty cool.”

Following the South Boston victory, Kenseth went to Lebanon, Mo. to race in the Jegs/CRA 144 All-Stars event. Kenseth and crew chief Kelly Bires worked alongside the team at Willard Racing to prepare one of their cars for the Saturday night show.

“First of all, we had a good time working on Willard’s car and they treated us like family,” said Kenseth. “I-44 Speedway is a unique track; a unique atmosphere and they filled the place up. I kind of messed up in qualifying and that put us back starting 15th. The car was certainly better than that. But, I felt good about the race.

“We just got caught up in a wreck on lap 3, which put an end to our day. A car spun in front of me. I went high to avoid it, but it rolled up the track and the contact sent me off the track and into the wall. After all of the effort we put in, it was disappointing to get wrecked on lap 3.”

This week Kenseth returns to the No 25 car where he and the Generation 3 Motorsports team will head to the Gulf Coast for a Southern Super Series twin-bill at Five Flags Speedway in Pensacola on Friday and Mobile International Speedway on Saturday.

“We usually only get to Pensacola once a year for the Snowball Derby, so going there early in the season should help us prepare for the big race at the end of the year,” said Kenseth. “The Southern Super Series fields have been really strong this year. Hopefully, we’ll be on top of our game and can go contend for the win.”

Tickets for each event are available of the track’s ticket office or online. Fans can follow the action live each evening at speed51.com.
