Pollard Looks to Get Back on Track at Five Flags & Mobile
Point Leader Had Hard Luck on the Gulf Coast in May, but Hopes for Better This Time Around
Bubba Pollard held a solid point lead in the Southern Super Series presented by Sunoco heading into the event at Five Flags Speedway in Pensacola, Florida last month.  At Five Flags, he broke his own track record in his brand new Grand American Race Car in time trials.  Later he dominated the race with the new ride only to be taken out by a lapped car in the final circuits.   Pollard weekend of devastation carried over to the next night’s event at Mobile International Speedway in Alabama, where he had problems that kept him out of victory lane again.

Now, Pollard is hoping to return to his winning ways in the Southern Super Series’ second stop at Five Flags on Friday, June 21st and Mobile on Saturday, June 22nd.  Both races are a part of the Gulf Coast Championship Series that Pollard has won the championship in the last two seasons.

"It was a tough weekend," recalled Pollard of his Gulf Coast woes last month.  "I have never had a car that dominant.  It was hard pill to swallow with a brand new racecar at Five Flags.  We need to go back there and repeat that performance to get the win that we missed out on in May."

Pollard's primary car was totaled in the Five Flags crash and it did not return to action until this past weekend at Berlin Raceway in Michigan, where it raced from  17th to a third-place finish.  If the car goes back to Pensacola with the same attitude and handling characteristics as it has in its last couple of runs, it could spell trouble for the rest of the field.

"The car ran good at Berlin," said Pollard.  "All our guys put in a lot if hours to get it back race-ready condition before we went to Michigan.  Third was a good run for us there and there was not a scratch on the car which will make the transition to the Gulf Coast weekend."

As if the competition didn't have enough to worry about, the second race of weekend will be at Mobile International Speedway, where Pollard has 11 Super Late Model wins in 100-lap events, making him the driver with the most wins on record.

"It's been a good track for us," said Pollard of Mobile.  "We had to use our stuff up coming through the field to finish fourth like we did last time.  We led some of the race and I think it's always fun to go to Mobile.”

The Blizzard Series at Five Flags Speedway and the Miller Lite Series at Mobile International Speedway both make the Gulf Coast Championship Series that fly under the Southern Super Series banner.
