Augie Grill Takes the Win at Mobile
Alabama Driver Rolls to Second Southern Super Series Victory
Augie Grill picked up his second Southern Super Series presented by Sunoco win of the season as he took home the Miller Lite 125 presented by VDL Fuel Systems at Mobile International Speedway in Mobile, AL.

Grill was running second when the break came at lap 75.  As he was following John Hunter Nemechek to the scheduled competition caution, he made a slight driving adjustment and his car came to life.

When the green flag flew for the final 50 laps, he couldn’t be touched and would go on to win his second Southern Super Series win.

“This car was really good from the get go, but on the last restart before the break I thought in my head, the car was moving up in the center and I decided that I would turn the wheel a little further and see what happens,” Grill said in victory lane. “It made the car way better. We made a few improvements at the break and this thing was bad to the bone in the last 50 laps.”

Nemechek had a strong run and told his crew that his car felt “amazing” at the break. But lost the lead to Grill when the invert roll was a two to start the final 50 laps.  Grill got the jump when the green flag waved but Nemechek couldn’t challenge for the win.

“We led that first segment and that was pretty good.  Augie looked like he had a loose car and he made it better,” Nemechek said. “The dice roll was pretty good. I am glad we didn’t restart sixth. I have to give it up to Augie, he ran me clean and hard.”

Kyle Benjamin challenged Nemechek for the runner-up finish in the final stages but settled for third.

“We had a pretty good car all night. Everybody was so close that it was tough to get track position,” Benjamin said. “The car really came on towards the end and we were running down Nemechek. I thought we would have enough to get by him but came up short. It was a lot of fun racing with him at the end. He had a better bite off of four. I was hoping to get by him and race with Augie, but maybe next time.”

Bubba Pollard came home fourth after having an up and down night.  In the first 75 laps, he made numerous pit stops for his crew to repair a leak in his rear end.  Pollard regained the series point lead with his top five run.

Mike Garvey was fifth while Jeff Choquette came home sixth. DJ Vanderley finished seventh with Daniel Hemric in eighth.

Scotty Ellis finished ninth while Stephen Nasse rounded out the top 10.

The Southern Super Series presented by Sunoco will be in action Saturday night, June 1, at Montgomery Motor Speedway in Montgomery, AL for the Southern Super Series 125 presented by ARBodies.
