Sunoco Becomes Presenting Sponsor of Southern Super Series
Sunoco's Support Boosts Inaugural Season's Point Fund
Southern Super Series officials announced today a partnership with Sunoco, the world’s leading racing fuel manufacturer, to be the presenting series sponsor.  The new Southern Super Series presented by Sunoco will make its on-track debut April 6 at Tennessee’s Fairgrounds Speedway Nashville.

The presenting sponsorship from Sunoco not only adds excitement for racers and fans for the debut of the series at Nashville, but will also be an added benefit for more drivers by boosting the Southern Super Series point fund.

“Sunoco has seen the potential of where the Southern Super Series could go,” said Tim Bryant, Five Flags Speedway General Manager and one of the spearheads of the Southern Super Series.  “What they are enabling us to do is to enhance the Southern Super Series points fund to where we can now pay all the drivers in the final top ten of the standings.

“Originally, our points fund compensation, which was coming directly from the tracks involved, was going to award the top three drivers. With Sunoco’s help, we are now able to pay fourth through tenth.”

Green Oil Company of Fairburn, Georgia will be the Southern Super Series’ Sunoco distributor and Sunoco 110 will be the series’ spec fuel.

The additional pay will enhance the series commitments from Super Late Model racers in the Southeast and beyond.  Already some of the most successful racers in the region such as Bubba Pollard, Stephen Nasse, Hunter Robbins, Augie Grill, D.J. VanderLey, Spencer Davis and more have committed to the season-long championship chase.

The inaugural Southern Super Series season will consist of 16 races at five tracks in four states.  In addition to Fairgrounds Speedway Nashville, the home of the first and final races on the 2013 schedule, the Southern Super Series will make multiple visits to Five Flags Speedway in Pensacola, Florida, Gresham Motorsports Park in Jefferson, Georgia, as well as Mobile International Speedway and Montgomery Motor Speedway in Alabama.

Winners of each 125-lap feature will receive a $5,000 payday, with boosted purses up for grabs in longer-distance World Crown 300 at Gresham and the All-American 400 at Nashville.  The overall championship will be worth $10,000, but there is room for the Southern Super Series to grow any and all of those figures with additional sponsorship opportunities.

“What would really make the Southern Super Series what we want it to be would be a title sponsor,” added Bryant.  “With that, we would be able to enhance the points fund to where it would compensate even more racers.  We know racing is an expensive sport and the more money you can throw out there, the more attention you get from race teams.”

Nashville’s April 6 kickoff to the Southern Super Series is already one of the most anticipated events of the short track season.  Some of the top drivers in the country have filed entries for the event and the list, in addition to an all-new SouthernSuperSeries.com website, will be available in the coming days.

“We believe the April 6 race at Nashville will be a big event,” said Bryant. “Most of the drivers we have talked to are excited about the opportunity to visit these five tracks this year.  There may be potential for other tracks to get involved in the future, but this year’s schedule has five really good racetracks.  I believe the guys like Stephen Nasse, Augie Grill and Bubba Pollard already committing to run for the $10,000 championship speaks volumes of the level of competition that the series will have.”
