Smith Overcomes Shim for Second Top 10 of Season
A Well Needed Run for Ratler Pole Sitter
TEAM PR - Saturday Casey Smith took his #99 Smith Excavating and Paving Super Late Model to the legendary Fairgrounds Speedway in Nashville, Tennessee where he was looking to take home the famous Gibson Guitar that is given to the winner at the 5/8-mile track.

Smith started eighth after a strong qualifying effort earlier in the afternoon and worked his way up to fourth before his car darted up the track 55 laps into the 125 lap feature. Smith fell back to 12th at before the competition caution flew on lap 75. During the caution the team found that Smith lost a shimm in the right front suspension and lost camber in the right front tire. After a two tire pit stop to make adjustments and replace the shimm Smith worked his way back up to seventh place, without the benefit of a caution, when the checkered flag flew. Smith was awarded sixth place after race winner John Hunter Nemechek failed post race inspection and was disqualified.

“I think we had a car that could’ve contended for a top three finish,” said Smith after the race. “We were fast all night long and then all the sudden I lost grip and went up the track. After we got the car fixed we were still fast and passed a lot of cars, but we just couldn’t catch a caution to get caught up and get a better finish.”

The next time Smith takes to the track it will be the first of four Pensacola/Mobile double headers in the Southern Super Series season on Friday April 25th and Saturday April 26th.
