Grill Looks to Turn Season Around  In Alabama 200
Winless in 2014, Two-Time SSS Montgomery Winner Seeks Rebound Victory
Heartbreak and disappointment have been prevalent themes for Augie Grill in 2014 entering the Southern Super Series presented by Sunoco's stop at Montgomery Motor Speedway for the 50th running of the Alabama 200 on September 6.

Grill has a giant goose egg in the win column after several near misses.  It's not without effort as the two-time Snowball Derby winner has led six races already this season for 363 laps, which is second only to point leader Bubba Pollard's total.  Despite leading all those laps Grill has yet to lead the last lap and visit victory lane this season.

"It's been a tough year," said Grill.  "I don't think the lack of winning changes our motivation.  We are just as motivated as ever to win and perhaps we can do it where we have been so good in the past at Montgomery."

Grill has several marquee wins in his short track career.  Along with the Derby wins, Grill has two Rattler 250 wins (now a SSS Sanctioned event) two Governor's Cup wins at New Smyrna and three Alabama 200 wins.  A few weeks back Grill all but had the World Crown 300 at Gresham Motorsports Park (GA) in his back pocket when his car lost power and he began sliding backwards and eventually to the pits.

"It would be pretty neat to get a win in the Alabama 200 again," said Grill.  "Montgomery has become our home track and we run well there and have won several races.  I liked the track the first time I got to race on it.  Hopefully we can pull it off and start a winning streak."

Grill is seeking a win as the Alabama 200 kicks off a three-race run to the Southern Super Series championship.  The Hayden, Alabama driver is third in points, only 55 points back.  It's highly possible that he could end up champion with a string of strong runs that could start at Montgomery.

"Montgomery is a good track," said Grill.  "I know if people who don't normally race with us came to race there then they could see that.  It's a racy track and it has two grooves.  I know that for sure because I ran the high lane the whole time there last time."

Joining Grill in the hunt for a win at Montgomery will be five-time series winner in 2014 and series point leader Bubba Pollard.  Also in mix will be three-time winner Donnie Wilson, defending series champion Daniel Hemric, upstart Georgia teen Anderson Bowen and a cast of many other talented drivers seeking the big prize.
